JOY OF MY SALVATION
Good morning on this very blessed day!
I pray you had a great night. I did! Two nights in a row without getting up in the night. I sound like I am talking about my 3 year old. They say when you get older you digress. Is it really so? Of course, I may be very dehydrated.
I have been studying my Bible study book this morning. Several of us ladies have a study on Thursday mornings at 8 AM. Ugh! But it is great. It is the Beth Moore Living Beyond Yourself. It is a wonderful study of the Fruit of the Spirit. You would love it. I have done it before at our church that my husband pastored until last year.
Anyway, as I said before, I had spent a day looking at each of the fruit last month in my blog. But I want to go back to the characteristic of joy today.
Nehemiah said, “Go and enjoy choice food and sweet
drinks, and send some
to those who have nothing
prepared. This day is sacred to our Lord. Do
not
grieve, for the joy of the Lord is your strength.”
Nehemiah 8:10
The joy of the Lord is our strength. Wow! We are to be filled with God's joy and it will give us strength. Who doesn't need strength these days to survive this fallen world we live in. It is where God has put us in this day and time and we are to be joyful because Jesus is in our hearts. But oh how we forget that and live in the moment. We dwell on our disappointments, our sicknesses and our feelings instead of on Jesus. What are we missing out on by doing that?
A cheerful look brings joy to the heart,
and good news gives health to the bones.
Proverbs 15:30
That is why we need to smile more. Smile at others in your cheerful look. We don't need to know a person to smile at them. We may never know how down and out a person is and that if we smile at them it could change their whole outlook or health. The Bible says so, so it is true. A smile and the words "Jesus loves you" can change a person's life. Someone elses or even ours.
Restore to me the joy of your salvation
and grant me a willing spirit, to sustain me.
and grant me a willing spirit, to sustain me.
Psalm 51:12
The joy of Your salvation. God's salvation. David knew God's salvation. What God did for us with Jesus on the cross. He gave us a way out of suffering for our sin. Jesus took all, I mean ALL, our sins and bore them on His back, just for us. For our redemption. How awesome is He and how blessed we are!
And they cried out in a loud voice:
“Salvation belongs to our God,
who sits on the throne,
and to the Lamb.”
who sits on the throne,
and to the Lamb.”
Revelation 7:10
Salvation belongs to God and to the Lamb! It is not our salvation but God's. God gives to us salvation as a free gift. It is His to give if we believe and accept. It is a gift of grace that we have the privilege to accept. Grace is unmerited favor. We don't have to do anything for it. But just accept it. How awesome is that?
So, rejoice in Your salvation. And if you aren't saved, today is the day of salvation. Don't wait another day. We are not guaranteed another second of life.
I will finish talking about joy tomorrow.
May God fill you with His joy today and every day.
Les
