WHAT IS ADVENT

Image
Good morning on this day after Black Friday! Did you go shopping? We didn't.  We spent the day working in the house and not even decorating for Christmas which somehow I will get to. We did go to our church to decorate. Quite a few of us worked on it together so it went pretty fast. Although we didn't get there when they started so the others had a lot done when we arrived. And it looks beautiful! So, tomorrow is the first Sunday of Advent. Advent is a season observed in many Western Christian churches as a time of expectant waiting and preparation for the celebration of the Nativity of Jesus at Christmas. I love this season in the church and in our home. I love the decorations and the lights and the feeling of God's Spirit and love in the air, so to speak. It is a beautiful time of year with the coming birthday of the King, Jesus Christ, our Lord. And that is exactly what it means to me. The commercialism that has been around for years is just too much.

GOD'S HELP

Good morning to you! Did you get enough turkey and dressing and all the fixings yesterday? Oh it was so good and we have leftovers for a few days. I love it!  I am late this morning. I did sleep in today which is very unusual for me. But as soon as I got up my husband said to come on let's work on this project. So, with some argument from me I finally gave in and now it is 10 after 11 in the AM and I am just getting started on this blog.  We are doing some renovations inside our home and well you do have to pack up and move it all out in order to do it. I do have a feeling that we should have waited until after Christmas. I think that this might have been too big a project for the time frame. I mean Christmas will be here before we know it and I will have to decorate and clean (reno won't be done until about the 18 or 19th) before all our kids come. They will be here for Christmas. Praise God! So, praise God for the reno and praise God for the kids coming. W

HAPPY THANKSGIVING

Good morning! How are you on this fabulous Thanksgiving Day? How thankful are you on this day? I pray very thankful. God is awesome all the time and all the time God is awesome. He loves you so much and He wants you to be very thankful to Him because all good things come from Him. He doesn't really need to hear it but we should be a thankful people anyways because He is worthy. He deserves it. He is the creator of the universe and He is our Lord God Almighty. Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom  that cannot be shaken, let us be thankful , and so  worship God acceptably with reverence and awe, Hebrews 12:28 Devote yourselves to prayer,  being watchful and thankful . Colossians 4:2 I will praise God's name in song and  glorify him with thanksgiving . Psalm 69:30 Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with  praise; give thanks to him and praise his name. Psalm 100:4 As you spend a wonderful day with family or friend

THANK YOU

Good morning! I am a little late today. I was making Pumpkin Bread and other such things for the day before Thanksgiving. I do have to go out and work today. It is going to be 32* for the high and 10-15 mph winds. Ugh!! All I want to do is stay home but if I don't go out today then Friday will be an extremely busy day. And I don't want it to be that busy. After all it is the day after Thanksgiving. So, tomorrow is officially the first day of the Thanksgiving/Christmas season for 2013. And then before you know it, it will be the new year. Oh, Lord, help us to love and enjoy the holidays and let us not be stressed and to keep our focus on Jesus, Who is the reason for the season.  We will not be with family tomorrow unfortunately because it just didn't work out. Our daughter and son-in-law live too far away and our son and daughter-in-law and grandsons had other family to be with. We are having some other people to be with and give thanks with. I tried to invi

WHAT WE HAVE IN CHRIST

Good morning! This is one of those dreary, rainy days where it is supposed to rain all day. I don't think that we have had one of those in a very long time. I was up this morning at 4 AM. I woke up and couldn't go back to sleep so I got up and put a laundry basket of clothes away and cleaned up some other things that needed done. Then I got back in bed and read for a little bit and then went back to sleep. Then at 7 my husband came to kiss me goodbye and I woke with a start. He told me to go back to sleep but I got up instead. I just have things to do. I am still cleaning and getting ready for Thanksgiving.  I did get a lot done yesterday which made me feel so much better. God just had me hustling and bustling around. And even though I had to go to town for a few hours I still accomplished a lot and I praise the Lord for it. For without Him I could not have done it. Without Him we can do nothing. Well sure we can do things but they are for nothing if we aren

Good morning! How are you this blessed day? May God fill you to overflowing with His love and peace. This starts a Monday before Thanksgiving of cleaning and cleaning and cleaning some more. I thought that I had it all under control. That I had started early enough for it all to be done. But you know how it is. Life has a way of throwing you in all directions with so much to do. That's where I am at. And when it gets like that I kind of panic and get nothing done.  I thought that I would stay home and not go anywhere Mon. - Wed. and then I could devote all my time to it. Well, I need to go to town today and do some things which will be several hours of time that I can't work at home. Help me, Jesus!! So, when you get so busy and a little panicky, what do you do? I hope and pray that you go to the Lord and trust Him to help you every step of the way. He is always there for us in every situation and will not leave us. That is a promise from Him.  That is

JESUS IS WITH YOU

Good morning on this blessed, cold day! It is still dark outside but I know the sun will shine. It is about 15* outside. I don't want to leave my cozy home this morning for church but I get to anyway. And I will live through it. Cold doesn't seem to be my friend anymore. When my skin gets too cold it gets red and itchy and if it gets too bad, it actually gets welts on it. I know it sounds weird but it happens. I don't know if my skin is allergic to the cold but I do get the symptoms. I was told one time by a doctor that it was called chilblains. But I have mentioned it to other doctors and they have never heard of it. All I know is that it happens. I like winter but I don't like the cold anymore. Oh well. God is with me and loves me just like He loves you more than anything. He will never leave you. He wants to be beside you all the way to eternity. How awesome is that? I know God is with us. This morning at church I am singing the first verse of a song in

ASLEEP

Image
Good morning! How are you this fine new day? Praise God for His many awesome blessings that He gives us every single day.  I fell asleep with the computer on my lap at 8:30 last night. My days seem to be so full that by 7 or so in the evening my eyes seem to start to close whether I am across the room from the TV, behind a book or newspaper, or in the front of the computer screen. My eyes just don't want to stay open. I claim that as a blessing from God since I have never been a good sleeper. I have always been a very light sleeper. And when I am not in my own bed sometimes I don't sleep much at all.   The last 6 months or so I have been a great sleeper. At least at home anyway. God has shown me that Black Cherry concentrate works great. Found it in one of my supplement books. I just drink one ounce in the evening and counting sheep is a breeze. I praise God for His many blessings. But Christ has indeed been raised from the dead,   the firstfruits of

KNOW HIM?

Good morning! Today is Friday. Wow! A week from yesterday is Thanksgiving. I starting working on my house in cleaning and fixing weeks ago but as usual I got sidetracked. I have so much to do between now and then. Lord, help me! The sun was supposed to shine yesterday but it didn't shine it's bright, shiny face much. I wanted it to shine because I had some work to do outside. It has to do with leaves and painting and cleaning up. I did get to do some painting for several hours. I love it when things look fresh and new especially when they are years old and have never been painted. But the wood still needs another coat. It is supposed to rain and bring in some very cold temps. I believe it is supposed to be only 39 for the high on Sunday. Ugh!! I pray that your Thursday was a great day. Besides painting mine was spent at home watching some training videos, doing laundry, and a bunch of other computer work for church and such. I really love doing computer work. I

GIVE ME FIVE?

Good morning! Hallelujah, praise the Lord! We will go right into the Five Finger Prayer started yesterday. This is all about praying for others and yourself, Supplication. 1) Your Thumb is nearest to you So begin your prayers by praying for those closest to you. They are the easiest to remember. To pray for our loved ones is, as C.S. Lewis once said “sweet duty.” While praying for our loved ones is easy the Bible also tells us to pray for our enemies who, in a negative way, are also near us. “Love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you. (Matthew 5:44) And again, “Don’t repay evil for evil. Don’t retaliate when people say unkind things about you. Instead, pay them back with a blessing. That is what God wants you to do, and he will bless you for it.” (1 Peter 3:9) 2) The next finger is the Pointing Finger The pointing finger reminds

FIVE FINGERS?

Image
Good morning on this fine day! Through the years I have accumulated so many things, much to the chagrin of my husband and kids. Paper stuff abounds in our house. But I have kept all kinds of paper things like this idea. Today I am going to share with you about The Five Finger Prayer. It adds to the A.C.T.S. way of prayer when praying in "supplication". (Praying for yourself and others.) I will start with a short introduction and then tell you about all five fingers tomorrow. It may be kind of long tomorrow but you don't have to read it all in one sitting. Learn and enjoy! "The “Five Finger Prayer” is a simple, yet effective, way to pray. We were separated from God by sin (Romans 3:23). But because Jesus paid for our sin on the cross we now “have access by one Spirit to the Father,” (John 3:16; Ephesians 2:18). Those who receive Jesus as their Savior become “children of God” (John 1:12). So even though God is “great and mighty in power” (

PRAY

Good morning! I pray all is well with you today. It is with me. God is so good and faithful and wonderful and awesome. Yesterday I talked about prayer. The Bible study we are doing also was talking about the A.C.T.S. way of praying. I had a paper given to me years ago on this way of prayer.  Let me share it with you. A.C.T.S. is an easy way to remember key elements of prayer. It’s simply prayer in four parts: A-Adoration                   “Praise be to God!” -Psalms 68:35 Tell God how much you appreciate Him. Express your love for Him. Praise His power and majesty. This is a great way to begin your prayer time. Sometimes I watch the sun rise, and praise God for the beauty of His creation. You should never run out of praise.   “How awesome are your deeds!” -Psalms 66:3 C-Confession              “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just, and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.” -1 John 1:9 Tell Him where you have fallen s
