NOT ABOUT US
Good morning on this blessed day!
More rain today! Wow! The only saving grace is that it keeps the temperature down. It poured buckets yesterday afternoon. We are going to float away. As long as my husband will be safe on the road today. Can't wait to see him. It seems as thought he has been gone for months. I know that he is exhausted.
They worked so hard in Oklahoma cleaning up tornado damaged places for 7 days. He said he had never worked so hard consistently day after day. I can't wait to hear all about it and see pictures. Maybe I don't want to see the pictures but that is okay. I want to share in his experience.
I am so proud of him for doing this. This was all about others-helping others, living with others, sharing with others, serving others, worshiping with others and then the others serving the workers. The people of the community churches served them. They set up real beds in the church for them. They made their beds everyday and served them awesome meals. They even offered to do their laundry. Praise God for people like that. I pray that my church and the others around would have done the same thing. How awesome is that!
It is not about us. It is about Jesus and what we can do for others. It is about God and what we can do for Him. And that means doing for others.
He answered, “‘Love the Lord your
God with all your heart and with all
your soul and with all your strength and
with all your mind’; and, ‘Love
your neighbor as yourself.’”
Luke 10:27
So if you faithfully obey the commands
I am giving you today—to love the Lord
your God and to serve him with all your
heart and with all your soul—
Deuteronomy 11:13
So, it is a command to love God like that. To serve Him like that. To give of ourselves in this way. Selfless acts are what God would have us to do. Not for our own glory but for the glory of God.
When was the last time we did a selfless act? Have we ever done something that great in God's eyes? Our culture seems to be all about me. "I" this and "I" that.
“Almost every sinful action ever committed can be traced back to a
selfish motive. It is a trait we hate in other people but justify in
ourselves. ”
-Stephen Kendrick, The Love Dare.
Just thought that I would share that. It is so true. Let us make an effort to think of others before ourselves. To pray for others before ourselves. To work for others before ourselves. To live for God first and then do for others. The others is anyone but God and self. Our families. Our friends. Other people we know. People we don't know.
You can do it. And so can I. Let's do it!
Have a great day!
