CALM AND QUIET

Good morning to you on this beautiful Sabbath day!

The Sabbath day! A special day of worship and rest. Have you been taking a moment, an hour, or a day to (sabbath) worship and rest besides Sunday? It is really hard to do. I guess that is why we don't do it like we should. But we shouldn't stress over trying to fit a sabbath (rest and worship on any day) in. I was saying a couple of days ago that we need that time to renew and refresh. But my excuse is that there is so much to do. I never seem to get caught up. I can't seem to find the routine that I need to find. I guess because every day is different with so many things to do. Maybe I am putting too much importance on things that really don't matter. Who knows! God does. He knows the important things we need to do. And He knows the unimportant things that we don't really need to spend time on.

The most important thing we need to do is love. We need to:

Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’
Mark 12:30

Then we need to:

‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’”
Luke 10:27b

The third thing in the list of 17 Suggestions on the Practice of Saying No: Sabbath that I have been talking about for several days is: Keep rocking the baby even after she's gone to sleep, and think of Psalm 131.

When we are loving God and our neighbor, we also need to calm and quiet ourselves.

"O Lord, my heart is not lifted up,
    my eyes are not raised too high;
I do not occupy myself with things
    too great and too marvelous for me.
But I have calmed and quieted my soul,
    like a weaned child with its mother;
    my soul is like the weaned child that is with me..."
Psalm 131

After I wrote yesterday's blog I vowed that I would shorten the blog. It was really long yesterday. And I don't want it to be so long and time consuming that you don't want to read it. So, I apologize for that. Even though a long one only takes a couple of minutes to read, some of us don't seem to have an extra couple of minutes. That is really kind of sad.

That is why I am writing about this subject that I have been for a couple of days. We need to make the time for the important things in life. Worshiping God and resting. Calming and quieting ourselves before the Lord. For one thing, prayer is a conversation with God. Well, a conversation is two ways. Be calm and quiet and listen to God!

So, let's love God and our neighbor, worship God and rest, quieting ourselves before the Lord, taking time to "smell the roses" so to speak. And I think that God would be pleased with that. Don't you?

Have a great day of worship and rest!
