GOD'S REST
Good morning on this snowy day!
It is hard to believe that we have spring break here in our county and wallah! Snow this morning! It makes it kind of hard to plant our spring garden or flowers but the warm air will come, eventually. My husband called on his way to work and said the roads are just fine, actually mostly dry he said. The warm weather will come soon enough and then everyone will complain it is too hot. I remember the ground hog said an early spring. Well, God sure proved him wrong! Many people up north are really struggling to dig out of the snow. But God knows best and has a plan!
# 11 in our sabbath list for rest and worship is: Sit mindfully in God's presence and talk out loud to God.
Read Psalm 139. Here are some excerpts:
O Lord, You have searched me and known me...
For there is not a word on my tongue,
But behold, O Lord, You know it altogether...
For there is not a word on my tongue,
But behold, O Lord, You know it altogether...
Where can I go from Your Spirit?
Or where can I flee from Your presence?
Or where can I flee from Your presence?
...I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made.
# 12: Create a Sabbath space in your home and a sabbath ritual. "The first holy thing in all creation, Abraham Heschel says, was not a people or a place, but a day, " Barbara Brown Taylor shares. Find a spot where you can get away and pray and worship and sing to the Lord in your home because not every day is a bright sun-shiney, warm day where you can go outside and do these things. Light a candle. Fix a cup of tea or coffee. Use this space only to spend time with Jesus and rest and let God refresh you.
# 13: It is not all about you: Sabbath is God's gift to all of creation. Taylor says, "Sabbath is not only about getting a little rest but also about freeing slaves, forgiving debts, restoring property, and giving the land every seventh year off." Pray without ceasing while resting in your sabbath. Let God free you from all hindrances. He loves you more than you know!
Search me, O God, and know my heart;
Try me, and know my anxieties;
And see if there is any wicked way in me,
And lead me in the way everlasting.
And lead me in the way everlasting.
Psalm 139:23-24
Have a blessed and beautiful day!
