GOOD FRIDAY

Good morning on this Good Friday!

I pray that all is well with you. Yesterday was Maundy Thursday. This is the Thursday preceeding Easter. Christians around the world and across many denominations take time on this day to remember the Last Supper, when Jesus and his disciples dined together for the last time before his death. Therefore, many churches today hold a communion service in the evening. Which in our community several churches held a joint service last night.

So, today is Good Friday! Some of us don't know what it is. So, I will try to explain that also. Good Friday is two days before Easter Sunday and is a day of mourning and quiet prayer commemorating Jesus Christ's crucifixion. Candles are often extinguished and statues, paintings and crosses may be draped in black, purple, or gray cloth to signify mourning. At least, people used to do that.

Good Friday is an important event in Christianity, as it represents the sacrifices and suffering in Jesus' life. The crucifixion was the culmination of a number of events in Holy Week, including: the triumphal return of Jesus to Jerusalem on Palm Sunday; the washing of the disciples' feet by Jesus; and the Last Supper on Maundy Thursday.

...being justified as a gift by His grace through
 the redemption which is in Christ Jesus; whom
God displayed publicly as a propitiation in His
blood through faith. This was to demonstrate
His righteousness, because in the forbearance of
God He passed over the sins previously committed;
Romans 3:24-25

He made Him who knew no sin to be sin
 on our behalf, so that we might become
the righteousness of God in Him.
2 Corinthians 5:21

Good Friday is a time of fasting and penance, commemorating the suffering, crucifixion, and death of the Lord. For Christians, this holy day commemorates not just a historical event, but the sacrificial death of Christ, which along with the resurrection, comprises the heart of the Christian faith.

So, today let's be quiet before God and thank Him for all that He did for us through the cross. Go to a service today or tonight and reflect on what the death of Jesus meant and stands for and give thanks with a grateful heart.

Have a blessed day!

(Just a side note: The Easter date depends on the ecclesiastical approximation of the March equinox. Several people in the last month have mentioned how the date of Easter gets its date. Easter in 2014 is April 20 and in 2015 it is April 5. The internet is so full of information.)
