REST IN HIM
Good morning to you on this bright,
sunny day before spring!
It will be really nice here today but others across the nation are buried with snow with more on the way. As much as I like the snow, I don't want to be buried or without power. But we do know that whatever the situation is, we must be content knowing that God is with us and will take care of us.
I have been talking about not the Sabbath, as in Sunday, but sabbath, as in times of rest and worship that can happen as often as we wish. It was 17 Suggestions on the Practice of Saying No: Sabbath. Well, after four days of one per day, I am feeling that God wants me to combine and do more than one per day so we can finish up and get on to other things.
So, # 5 is: Sabbath and exercise: go swimming, but let yourself float a long time. "As you slow down," Barbara Brown Taylor says, "your heart does, too...you discover more room around your heart, a greater capacity for fresh air."
I love to swim. I don't get the opportunity to do it very often. I grew up with a pool. Every time we moved my Dad put in an above-ground pool. He would always build a deck of some sort around it so you could sunbathe next to the water. I loved it and actually I miss it.
Swimming can be very relaxing as well as healthy for you. And God wants us to take care of our bodies, physically and emotionally.
# 6: Seriously - go outside and look at the stars. For a long time. And hear Psalm 8.
Lord, our Lord,
how majestic is your name in all the earth!
how majestic is your name in all the earth!
You have set your glory
in the heavens.
2 Through the praise of children and infants
you have established a stronghold against your enemies,
to silence the foe and the avenger.
3 When I consider your heavens,
the work of your fingers,
the moon and the stars,
which you have set in place,
4 what is mankind that you are mindful of them,
human beings that you care for them?
in the heavens.
2 Through the praise of children and infants
you have established a stronghold against your enemies,
to silence the foe and the avenger.
3 When I consider your heavens,
the work of your fingers,
the moon and the stars,
which you have set in place,
4 what is mankind that you are mindful of them,
human beings that you care for them?
5 You have made them a little lower than the angels
and crowned them with glory and honor.
6 You made them rulers over the works of your hands;
you put everything under their feet:
7 all flocks and herds,
and the animals of the wild,
8 the birds in the sky,
and the fish in the sea, all that swim the paths of the seas.
and crowned them with glory and honor.
6 You made them rulers over the works of your hands;
you put everything under their feet:
7 all flocks and herds,
and the animals of the wild,
8 the birds in the sky,
and the fish in the sea, all that swim the paths of the seas.
9 Lord, our Lord,
how majestic is your name in all the earth!
how majestic is your name in all the earth!
Well, God is so great and greatly to be praised. How majestic is His name in all the earth. Enjoy God's creation and exercise. Get outside and see what the Lord has made. As I have said before, take time to smell the roses. God made it all. It is meant to be enjoyed and loved. But not more than Him!
Know therefore that the Lord your God is God; he is the faithful God, keeping his covenant of love to a thousand generations of those who love him and keep his commandments.
Deuteronomy 7:9
Jesus loves you so have an awesome day and rest in Him!
