SERVING
Good morning on this Memorial Day!
With the pitter-patter of little feet around me (my grandkids), I thank God for the men and women who served our country and lost their lives in the process in order for us to have the freedom that we have today.
My Dad was in the Army. My father-in-law retired from the Air Force. My step-dad was a Marine. One of my brother-in-laws was in the Army and three were in the Air Force which one of them retired from and my husband was in the California Air National Guard for seven years.
None of them lost their lives in the military but they still are my heroes. Some of them were drafted but some of them served their time because they wanted to. They gave of themselves in order to serve our country so that we would have freedom in the United States of America as well as the countries they served in.
Some other countries don't do so well in the freedom department but in the USA we are still pretty much the land of the free and the home of the brave. But unfortunately we are loosing some of those freedoms. But I don't want to get into that.
I would rather talk about service.
“So you shall serve the Lord your God, and He
will bless your bread and your water. And I will
take sickness away from the midst of you.
Exodus 23:25
You shall fear the Lord your God and serve
Him, and shall take oaths in His name.
Deuteronomy 6:13
‘And it shall be that if you earnestly obey My commandments which I command you today, to
love the Lord your God and serve Him with all
your heart and with all your soul...'
Deuteronomy 11:13
And if it seems evil to you to serve the Lord, choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.”
Joshua 24:15
Serve the Lord with gladness; Come
before His presence with singing.
Psalm 100:2
Then Jesus said to him, “Away with you, Satan!
For it is written, ‘You shall worship the Lord
your God, and Him only you shall serve.’”
Matthew 4:10
Serve the Lord and Him only. Now we are to serve others also. But I say this in order get the point across that we should serve the Lord only and not the evil one. Sometimes we cross the line. We say we serve the Lord and then we don't want to do some things that He wants us to do. But are we just disobedient or are we choosing to serve the evil one? I suppose that is where that fine line is.
So, let's think about it when we don't want to do what God wants us to do or we want to do what He doesn't want us to do. Let's follow the Lord and serve Him because that is where we are to be in our walk with Him, as servant of the Most High God.
Have a blessed day serving the Lord and remembering those who served and are serving our country.
