THE LORD'S SERVANT
Good morning!
"Greetings, you who are highly favored! The Lord is with you." That is what the angel said to Mary when he came to her and told her she was going to have a baby, the Messiah. I can't imagine what she was thinking when this happened. She was very young, a 12 year old girl. Oh my! When the angel came to her, she was fearful and troubled. Who wouldn't be? She was so young and already betrothed as was actually the Jewish custom. Can you imagine being engaged to be married when you or even your daughter when only 12? Mary must have been a very settled and mature young lady. She did have a great faith in God.
Mary could never have expected to hear the most incredible news — that
she would have a child, and her son would be the Messiah. Although she
could not comprehend how she would conceive the Savior, she responded to
God with belief and obedience. After the angel left her, this is what she sang:
46 And Mary said:
“My soul glorifies the Lord
47 and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior,
48 for he has been mindful
of the humble state of his servant.
From now on all generations will call me blessed,
49 for the Mighty One has done great things for me—
holy is his name.
50 His mercy extends to those who fear him,
from generation to generation.
51 He has performed mighty deeds with his arm;
he has scattered those who are proud in their inmost thoughts.
52 He has brought down rulers from their thrones
but has lifted up the humble.
53 He has filled the hungry with good things
but has sent the rich away empty.
54 He has helped his servant Israel,
remembering to be merciful
55 to Abraham and his descendants forever,
just as he promised our ancestors.”

56 Mary stayed with Elizabeth for about three months and then returned home.
Luke 1:46-56
Mary was a wonderful young woman, with a wonderful faith in God. And remember she is 12 years old!
If only I could have had that kind of faith when I was 12 or 20 or 50. And this is what she said in verse 38 of the same chapter:
"I am the Lord's servant," Mary answered. "May it be to me as you have said." Then the angel left her.
Luke 1:38
"May it be to me as you have said." Would we have told God that? Do we always pray and say "may your will be done" to God? Now of course we do when we pray the Lord's Prayer but I mean in our personal prayers, do we say that? I must admit I do only occasionally but not every time I pray. I guess that I should. And I can try to say that each time I pray. I want to be pleasing to God . I want to praise Him always. I want to honor and glorify Him in all things. I want to thank Him and praise Him even when times are tough and things aren't going right. I want to trust Him and be obedient.
God knew Mary would willingly serve God in one of the most important
callings ever given to a human being. Just like Mary, God looks at our
obedience and trust — usually not the qualifications that man might look
upon. God will often choose and use the most unlikely of choices.
Let God choose and use you today. He loves you so much and He looks at your heart. Let's make our hearts right today!
Have an awesome day!
