TRAINING FOR GOD

Read this scripture!!

Good morning to you on this blustery day!

We are supposed to get severe storms today. The warm front (it is 70* at 8 AM here in winter) is supposed to meet the cold front and kaboom: severe storms. I am praying that it won't be severe. Lots of rain is fine. We have had enough tornadoes in our area and Lord, please protect all of us and let any severe weather dissipate.

We have had a pet training containment system (wireless electric fence) for our dog for probably 6-8 years and never even took it out of the box. Well, yesterday we finally did and set it up and trained our dog for about an hour. We are supposed to train every day for 30 days. In the end, I certainly won't go outside the fence! Our dog won't stay in the yard and brings things home from the neighbors houses. She doesn't do much wrong. She doesn't even chew the items just brings them home. And of course, we have no idea who the items belong to. Anyway, so a-training we will go. That way she can run around and not leave the yard. I am not looking forward to training when it is 30* or when it is pouring rain but gotta do it. So, as soon as I get done with this blog I will go training. Hopefully it won't be raining. It is getting darker outside. Such is life!

So, about training. How do we train ourselves to live for Jesus? Well, it sure would be easy if we were born totally trained to love God with all our hearts, souls, mind, and strength. And even though we do know God in the womb, we make a choice as we get older to train to love Him and know Him.

The word of the Lord came to me, saying,
“Before I formed you in the womb I knew
you, before you were born I set you apart;
Jeremiah 1:4-5a

So, it takes a lifetime to learn about God and all His ways so that we can be like Him. But that is definitely a choice that we make when we ask Jesus to live in our heart. When we pray the prayer of salvation, then we read and do His Word, talk to Him in prayer, fellowship with other believers (in church and out), and spread the gospel to others. All this is a training process. For some, living the Christian life is harder than it is for others. But it is a choice. And then it is a commitment. Commitment is not a four-letter word. It may seem like it sometimes but it is not. It is not easy but it is the best life there is: training to live for Jesus.

Everyone who competes in the games goes
into strict training. They do it to get
a crown that will not last; but we do
it to get a crown that will last forever.
1 Corinthians 9:25

Fathers, do not exasperate your
children; instead, bring them up in
the training and instruction of the Lord.
Ephesians 6:4

For physical training is of some value,
but godliness has value for all things, holding promise for both the present
life and the life to come.
1 Timothy 4:8

All Scripture is God-breathed and is
useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting
and training in righteousness,
2 Timothy 3:16

Training in scripture talks a lot about training for sports of some kind. So, that is what training to live for the Lord is compared to. And if we can do it for our sport, we can all certainly do it so that we can live for God in a way that will please Him. Because that is what it is all about. It is all about pleasing God and living for Him.

Praise the Lord!

Have an awesome and blessed day!

Les
